How to Stop Unauthorized Users from Controlling Your Chromecast

Thanks to Chromecast, you no more need to boggle your head on small screens of laptops and tablets. Simply cast your screen on a TV with the help of a Chromecast.

For starters, Chromecast is a device which lets its users play content which is online into digital television. It is a streaming media adapter.  The adapter is a dongle which can be plugged into the television’s HDMI port. An HDMI port is a cable which connects to a USB port to power up the Chromecast. What makes Chromecast very popular is its capability to stream from various sources including Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Google Play, and movies from the chrome browser as well.

With all these perks and all, there is one drawback associated with the device. Your Chromecast can be controlled by a compatible device which shares the same network connection. This means that other users who are connected to your WiFi network can gain unauthorized access to your Chromecast.

If you own a Chromecast device and also own a set of irritating friends or roommates, you are probably tired of them breaking down your stream, pausing it all of a sudden. Rickrolls might seem funny at first but they are definitely not funny when you engage yourself in a movie or a show and this happens. Google, on the other hand, had a chance to fix this by letting the registered owner of the Chromecast approve all the streaming request. But sadly, it has not implemented this feature into Chromecast yet.

How to Prevent Others From Controlling your Chromecast

Step 1: Open Google’s home application on any phone or tablet which shares the same network connection as that of the Chromecast device.

Step 2: Select the Chromecast device to which the controls need to be adjusted.

Step 3: The specific device’s page will show up on the next page.

Step 4: Now, tap on the settings menu located at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 5: When the device setting screen pops up, scroll down to the place where the option “Let others use your cast media” option is available and toggle it off to disable this option. By doing this, you can prevent others from using your Chromecast device.

However, there is a catch. You can do this on every other Android device possible. So, don’t let your prankster friends take control of your phone. That’s all you have to do to prevent unauthorized access to your Chromecast device.
